PREPARATION
Before application all surfaces must be clean and free of
dust, oil and grease. Adhesion largely depends on careful
surface preparation. Try a small area first to satisfy yourself
with the final result. All sharp edges should be bevelled.
PREVIOUSLY
PAINTED SURFACES
Carefully remove any flaking or cracked paint and follow application
directions. If the surface is sound, lightly sand, remove
dust and apply as directed.
METALS
Must be clean with all rust neutralised or removed. After
preparation apply one coat of Metal Primer allowing adequate
drying time before coating with SOFDEX.
TIMBER
AND PLYWOOD
Sand smooth, and clean thoroughly. Apply one coat Timber Primer
allowing minimum 24 hours drying time before coating with
SOFDEX.
CONCRETE
SURFACES
Etch the surface with hydro-chloric acid (Spirits of Salts)
diluted 1 to 3 with water. Hose down and clean thoroughly.
Allow surface to dry and apply coating of SOFDEX. For old
or weathered concrete, remove any trace of grease, oil or
dirt, and when thoroughly clean, apply as directed. On very
smooth or dusty surfaces we recommend thinning the first coat
of SOFDEX 20% with water.
APPLICATION
Fill all surface defects such as holes, joints and cracks
with caulking compound. Ensure expansion joints are correctly
formed according to building codes. Apply the first coat of
SOFDEX with a long pile paint roller or paint brush. Allow
to dry thoroughly for minimum six hours or preferably overnight,
depending on temperature conditions. (Do not apply below 15
degrees C). After first coat is completely dry apply a second
coat at 90¼ or in a right angle direction to the first coat
and where applicable apply the third coat at 90¼ or in a right
angle direction to the second coat. Each coat should be applied
at 5-6 square metres per litre. Allow to dry for a minimum
of 24 hours after final coat before subjecting to light traffic.
(72 hours minimum for full cure). NOTE: Some rubber compounds
may stick to SOFDEX.
TOUCH
UP PROCEDURES
Thoroughly wash the area with a detergent solution, hose and
allow to dry. When dry, simply overcoat with SOFDEX to restore
the original appearance. Clean up with water.
